This is a poem that I wrote a few years back that I came across again recently.  I’ve always rather liked this one.

Friends with the wind

If you make friends with the sun
You will undoubtedly have fun
But come a rainy day
You may find he’s gone away

If you make friends with the wind
You’ll find he has the sweetest voice
But in the end
He’ll have no choice
But to blow on to a new friend

And if you make friends with the rain
At first it will seem like a fresh change
Then you’ll start to feel wet and cold
And her company will grow old

If you make friends with the snow
She’ll be the brightest friend you’ll ever know
But one day you’ll find
She’s left without a trace behind

And after reading this you may say,
“So why be friends at all if it’ll end this way?”
To which I would respond,
“We all need friends to get along”
